More about me
I was born deaf, but can hear some sounds. With hearing aids, one-on-one conversations are okay, group conversations are impossible. Phone calls are impossible. I strongly prefer Discord and internet forums to group conversations in real life. I do find social media too performative for my tastes, but I participate in it every once in a while.
Despite being born deaf, I was raised orally without sign language for some reason, so I spent my whole life developing my ability to understand and guess spoken English, but even at best, understanding speech is a slog, especially in groups. My reading skill is much better, and reading takes far less mental effort than listening.
I have a PhD in mathematics, though I like understanding mathematical structures more than producing theorems.
